Job Description

JOB SCOPE/SUMMARY:


The Packaging Inventory Specialist will be play two central roles. The first, as a centralized buyer who will oversee inventory and demand for specific packaging types. Additionally, this role will collaborate with Marketing, Graphics, Suppliers and our internal Supply Chain team to manage new products and/or new packaging introductions. This specialist will develop and monitor run-out timing plans for packaging changes to keep needed packaging in stock, while minimizing scrap. This position will be responsible to provide regular status updates to management to monitor timeline progress and/or communicate concerns. Some inventory reporting will be required.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Generate recurring purchase orders for packaging and forward to appropriate suppliers. Allocate inventory to plants across the network to balance demand and keep adequate inventory levels so plants can adjust to changes in demand. Monitor the status of PO’s with suppliers and communicate updates with internal customers.
  • Work with Marketing Product Managers, Graphics, and suppliers on new product and/or packaging introduction timelines and make recommendations to minimize scrap under different packaging run-out scenarios. Analysis and recommendations will be based on “big data” manipulation coming from various different sources.
  • Communicate and coordinate upcoming packaging changes to the Supply Chain team as well as suppliers and advise on the appropriate disposition of phased-out packaging to minimize scrap.
  • Prepare business impact reports to report on financial impacts related to packaging.
  • Maintain, and in some cases develop supplier inventory reporting.
  • Monitor and track suppliers’ conformance to lead-times and service and provide regular updates to Sr. Management.
  • Review, suggest, and implement improvements in terms of alternate packaging styles to reduce costs and/or improve service.
  • Maintain and update supplier and pricing information in SAP
  • Other miscellaneous back up duties within the Supply Chain department as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, especially with coursework in the area of Supply Chain, Operations Management or a related field
  • Experience involving inventory control, purchasing and materials management work using computerized databases
  • APICS CPIM Certification a plus (company sponsored certification plan available)
  • Must possess a high level of communication and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to handle complex multiple assignments and projects, to meet deliverables in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Experience analyzing large sets of data
  • Consistently demonstrates proven ability to learn and use necessary tools

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of computerized inventory control systems, MRP and BOMs
  • ERP experience preferred (particularly SAP or Oracle)
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suites – particularly strong Excel skills including the ability to create complex spreadsheets leveraging vlookup, if-then statements, and Pivot tables
